Since my magazine project will be a travel magazine, I have picked out five magazines of the same topic/type. My first magazine is Go Escape and it is a magazine under USA Today Travel.
The front cover is very eye catching as it has a beautiful background picture of a beach near Algarve, Portugal. I know what the picture is of, because it has a caption in the lower left hand corner above the bar code. Along with this picture, there are some captions on the right side that hint at articles on the inside of the magazine. For example, one reads, "Indulge in Europe." The title of the magazine is in big, bold font in a yellow color that pairs wonderfully with the blue sky background. Under the main title is a subtitle on the left that says, "74 Winter Getaways," which also showcases the content that may be inside. Also, the front cover also shows the issue, reading "Winter 2018," and a little note that says "Pack your Bags". The color scheme is in all yellow and white along with most of the text in bold lettering, except the caption explaining the background picture. Most of the font is similar, although a cursive font is used on the word "Getaways" which creates an even more vacation look tie into the cover. Overall, the front cover is extremely eye catching and would certainly bring in many customers.
Within this magazine, there are many different articles you can read inside. As you can guess, most of the articles relate to travel. More specifically, the articles cover places you can travel all the way to airport information. From pages 6-26 out of 144, there are approximately 10 short articles; meaning no more than two pages long. Many of these articles apply to the process of traveling rather than actual destinations, however, a few refer to some activities that you can do while traveling to particular areas. Between these short articles, a few ads pop up, but nothing major. Most of these advertisements involve travel essentials or restaurants that may be in the area, however a few others, like March of Dimes are also included.
Moving on a few pages, the longer articles begin on page 28 and continue all the way to the last page on 144. As you read these installments, you start learning about more specific travel destinations and activities you may be able to do in the area. Ads in this section begin very light and not at an abundance but you quickly notice an increase in them as you continue. As you read the articles, you notice they are all two pages or more and that they get into more details. The locations they are about range from hot to cold climates and activities associated with each. The advertisements are more about travel like hotels and activities in the area rather than a sponsor that doesn't relate to the magazine. This helps the advertisers get more company since people reading the magazine would want to invest in similar activities or locations.
The photos for this magazine are very high quality and are successful in showing how enjoyable a place may be. On the front cover, the beautiful photo of a beach with blue-green water really draws people in to pick it up and begin reading. The table of contents is simple and only shows three photographs. Two of the photographs are referencing articles you can read because they show the page number on the lower right hand corner. The other photo is simply one of the front cover that references how it was obtained. In the articles, pictures are shown to help the reader understand and see what the author is talking about. The photos all have captions and range from location to objects and even some with people enjoying the activity or location that is showcased.
The distribution number was very difficult to find and with help, I was unable to find it for this specific magazine. In the process for searching for the distribution number, I emailed one of the employees for the magazine that was an accounting director. I was hoping to get a response from them but I was unable to receive one. On another note, this magazine has not been nominated for any awards and has not won any either.

Project Selection-My Decision Update
My project decision has become more official as I have decided to do a travel magazine rather than a science magazine. Right now, I really want to do a more "tropical" travel magazine. I'm thinking about going to a couple of beaches or islands in the area and writing about the activities that visitors can do or events/historical aspects the area is known for. As a Floridian, I feel this magazine idea would be fun to pursue and not just a boring project that is required. I will still be working alone as I feel it will be easier for me. Overall, I'm excited to get started on my project and visit many fun areas in the process.

Project Selection-My Decision
For the Media Studies project, I have decided to do a magazine rather than the film option. I made this decision because I feel like it would be more enjoyable for my personality rather than the film option. I may change my mind, but I feel pretty confident about this decision. My skills seem to be more centered towards the magazine project because I enjoy writing and want to get stronger at it. If I don't change my mind and end up doing the magazine, my genre would be either science or tourist information. Science is on my mind because I enjoy the topic and feel that I could provide an interesting and new stance on it. With the tourist information genre I could go around Florida, or at least Sarasota and take some photographs that would draw readers in. My work will be completed alone as I feel I can get more done without worrying about others not getting their work finished. Overall, I feel that my decision is the best for me and my skill set.

Project Selection-Film
Film production takes a lot of work. It involves lighting, camera angles, sound, and lots more. In Media Studies, we have watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off, All the President's Men, and the Newsroom. As a class, while watching the films, we analyzed the camera angles/shots, sound choice, and lighting options chosen for particular scenes. All of these aspects of film can change the overall mood the production crew wants to display, showing the importance of having them used properly. If I were to do the film project, I feel like my skills to be very engaged and wanting to create something great would be a good fit for me. Although some of my skills would make this project decision seem like a good fit, I think it would be more of a challenge to me. I think I would struggle with making sure all the technical aspects of the film were right along with taking awhile to piece it together perfectly.
Project Selection-Magazine
When learning about print journalism, I have found many aspects that interest me. With magazines, news is able to get across in many different types of ways. There are informational magazines, gossip magazines, and even magazines with only entertainment purposes. In class, we have watched Nixon, All the President's Men, and the TV series the Newsroom. We have also done assignments in class with magazine analysis and even looking at blog samples. The films we have watched all pertained to the press or magazines affecting people's lives. While looking over samples, and movies showing print journalism, I was interested in the fact that writers would write about stories they were interested in. I also was interested by the fact that not all print media is dry and boring. I would classify myself as a very determined person, plus, I enjoy to write about interesting topics that others would enjoy. However, I feel like this project may become a challenge for me in the beginning with getting used to the formatting and how to pace my self with the project.
