Magazine Project Research (Lonely Planet)

The final magazine for my background research is the Lonely Planet magazine. Like all the other magazines, the front cover has a background photo with multiple text overlying it. The title of the magazine is in bold, white, lowercase letters. The rest of the text is also in white while some has a surrounding red background. The photo is of Lake Pehoé in Chile's Torres del Paine National Park. The view of the lake also includes a mountain in the background. The subtitle of the magazine is Best in Travel: 50 Inspiring Places to see in 2018.

This magazine begins with many short articles within a certain section. These sections are called Postcards, Globetrotter, Easy Trips, and best in Travel 2018. On pg. 54, the first long article begins titled Land of Ice and Fire. This page ends on pg. 65 and does not contain any ads within, whereas the smaller articles before did. On pages 66-73, and 74-83. There are two more long articles without any ads. On page 84, there is a single paged ad followed by one more long article. The ads before page 54 are mostly single paged and involve something used during travel or places to visit while traveling. The Postcards section includes images of places related to island life. In Globetrotters, the articles are about travel trends and discoveries. The next section is self explanatory and is about exactly what the section is titled, Easy Trips, and best in Travel 2018. Land of Ice and Fire is about the Japanese Alps and supplies the reader with information relating to life there and traditions. A Mexican Feast, the next long article contains many different Mexican recipes that the reader can try. Following is an article titled, Once Upon a Time in the West, and is about Iceland's wild western life. The final longer article is titled The Great Escape: Chile and contains four smaller articles within, all about Chile.

Photographs throughout this magazine are simply beautiful. On the cover, as stated before, is a photo of Lake Pehoé and contains magnificent mountains in the background. On the table of contents pages, there are four photos. On the first page of the contents section, there is a photo of Shirakawa-gō, Japan, covering the entirety of the page. On the last contents page, the final three pictures are ones that hint at the content inside some of the articles. In the articles themselves, there are plenty of photos all relating to the information given to the reader. Each picture is special and helps the reader understand the content even more.

I was unable to find the circulation number for this magazine as well. I have emailed the consumer marketing circulation specialists at: ron@npsl.com. If I get a response, I will update this post with the circulation number. This magazine has not won any awards so far and does not seem to have been nominated for any either.
